At present we are an informal group of people involved in conservation and the revival of local history and traditions in the beautiful Carwynnen Valley to the south of Camborne.
The area includes the former Pendarves Estate which is surrounded by a rich tapestry of woodlands and meadows. We will work with the many Charities, Trusts and Landowners in the area.
These include The Sustainable Trust, John Harris Society, Celtic Heritage Trust, Cornwall Wildlife Trust, The Woodlands Trust, Crowan Footpaths and Bridleways Society, Open Spaces Society and others.
We hope to set up various projects including:
-the establishment of disabled access trails
- set up courses in woodland skills such as coppicing with all age groups
-to create a tree nursery
-create an outdoor threatre to coordinate with various groups towards a full performance of the 'Beunans Meriasek' (The Life of St. Meriasek) Passion Play
-a revival of St. Meriasek Feast Day in June
-revival of St. Ia's Day in January, a procession to St. Ia's Chapel in Reen Woods
-public awareness of common land
-oral recordings of local memories of the area
-recording and protecting the archaeological remains in the area
-mapping historical routes such as the bridleway from Copper Hill, down to the Red River Valley and the sea at Gwithian
The Carwynnen area, local villages such as Troon and Penponds are rich in history and wildlife. It will be possible to create a story, to paint a picture of how life evolved in the valley from pre-history to today. Please join us and contribute your particular skills to this historical and community venture.
